poetry
another time, another day
I walk through the restaurant and dodge the waitstaff but I have already
been waiting long been waiting for
a moment not quite like this but
I suppose it'll do, you'll do
You stand up and smile, blood pressure rises,
I don't want to see a menu but I'll order anyways
I would take the check but
Chivalry is dead you say –
said, once;
I remember, I always do
Let me get a box for that food
and we'll go home maybe together
Yes I suppose, your friends, they can come too
I'll look at you a moment too long and so will you
but then turn away
a moment too soon
Another time, we'll say
over text once it's gotten late.
Put down your phone, just for a second
face to face
words are enough with you
but never quite enough until it's too late and
you're gone,
Another time, we'll say
There is always time but never enough
like the water in my glass at the restaurant
they try and try to refill
but I ask Can I get some more please
Please, I always say
Stay over sometime and we'll have time,
tired but tired with time, the next day;
to hold you like a corkscrew
and a bottle of wine, not cold but It's ok
it'll always be okay
So text me tomorrow, send me a song or
at least reply just to say
I remember, I know you
We'll do all this again sometime, another day
